I skii the bear am sorry for the lack of post. I recently moved to Los Bearlin on the other side of the Arctic. just as aI settled in the Arctic disappeared beneath me and was swept out to sea. I was the diagnosed with Bearancen a rare disease. I was hospitalized for the summer with out the use of my hands. During that time my close friend was killed. I am now going to try to post once a week so look for new post every saturday. Sorry once more

Endangered Species List

I subscribe to a few human magazines such as Newsweek and National Geographic. I recently got the June 9, 2008 issue and it was about the endangered species list.
A link to the story follows http://www.newsweek.com/id/139537 you humans should so check this out so you can learn about us and other species that you endanger.

My dream

I had a dream that one day bear and man would work together to end the destruction of the planet. In my dream I was in the body of a Human.
I woke up and noticed i was lying in a fluffy bed of feathers. I made my way to the bathroom from my sleeping quarters. I looked up and fainted in shook because i saw a human face looking back at me from a mirror. Though this human was not completely ugly, he had the refined features of a polar bear. I had break fest of orange juice and waffles. To my self or my dream self I said "i will change the humans". I went to my work place and it happened that i was giving a speech. I said "My fellow men and woman I am here to speak on the behalf of the polar bears. Many of you care about those Arctic bears but you do not know how to help them. Let me tell you. You shall help them by not driving your cars or if you do go for cars with high MPG. Don't waste gas. When you can walk or take public transportation do so. In your homes do not leave electric appliances on so you do not waste energy. Install solar panels and try to get your neighbors to do the same. Do not use coal energy. Respect nature and help it along. Donate money to enviormental agencies. Educate yourself about the bears and do things that will help them. Do not eat fish that comes from the arctic and petition fishing companies." Man I was worked up and then I fell out of bed I realived that it was a dream. If you do the things I said in my dream you will help us, I promise you that.

About our society 2

I just came to a realization that i have not come to tell you about my society. We are ruled by the Polar Bear Emperor. Us polar bears are assigned positions on our intelligence level, though even the dumbest bear is of equal intelligence to the smartest man. The stupidest bears are assigned as hunters and the smartest as teachers and reasearchers like my brother and I. We bears can uase technologies far advance to you humans. Our computers are evolved from yours though.
Yeah thats the basic structure of our society.

I just heard from Roberts wife that robert is having an audiance with the bear emperor. I felt good for my brother. My reasearch mission was assigned by him.

Yes!!!!

"The science is absolutely clear that polar bear needs protection under the Endangered Species Act," said Andrew Wetzler
May 15, 2008 is a historic day, the day we were put under the endangered species act.

A bear poem

This poem was given to me by a young bear. He lost both of his parents in a hunt. Please humans if you can not feel our races pain and sorrow atleast feel his and know that one of your kind made this happen. I do not blame you people because I know that there are some people that are like Sid who try to help us out. Here is his poem.

On the lone ice plain I stand
With no one with me
My parents have gone
On their last hunt
They where the greatest on the plains
But the hunter
Became the hunted
And alone I stand
I feel as cold as the ice
I have the sorrow of many
My fellow bears all
know the feeling of losing one close
I lost my parents to the hands
The hands of man
Now they take my home away
Melting it slowly
Turning ice into slush
Making it to hot to stand
Taking our beloved fish
Our food our life blood
They are killing us
Slowley and surely
Soon all of us bears will be on our last great hunt.

That was his poem. Open your eyes

Alternative energy

Between eating, playing tag and more eating Sid and I told the other bears about the alternate energies humans could use.
We broke into two groups and did a presentation.

  • Wind Energy

"Humans can create energy by spinning turbines. Wind energy uses wind to spin the turbines creating energy that is cheap and clean... meaning that it does not throw green house gasses into the atmosphere. Wind energy though only works in places where there is constant wind and the wind spinners take up room. The kinetic or moving energy of wind is converted into electrical energy. The groups of wind spinners make wind farms that supply partial energy to the grid. Some towns use smaller spinners to generate their electricity without using fossil fuels.

  • Solar

There are three types of Solar energy.

  1. Sunlight is directed onto solar panels made up of photovoltaic cells that convert the photons energy into light energy. They are made up of semi-conductors and silicon. This type of solar energy can power small things such as human time-tellers and math-doers but this solar energy can also supply a large amount of energy to the grid. Humans can also have solar panels installed on their houses.
  2. Sunlight is reflected onto a pipe carrying oil which is super heated by the light of the sun. The pipe then goes into a vat of water that steams. The steam spins turbines that produce electricity. This is known to some humans as concentrated solar power technologies.
  3. The final type collects heat to heat water.. I don't see how you humans like warm and hot water at temperatures of above 60 degrees. I mean anything above 40 is horrible.
  • Nuclear energy

This energy is made by using a uranium rods that are super heated . The rods are dipped in water making steam that spins turbines. This energy is dangerous because of the uranium. The nuclear reactors can have melt downs and blow up. Us bears know the risk because of the Ukraine incident in 1986.

  • Hydroelectricity

Is made by water spinning turbines. It is very productive but it dams up water and can destroy the natural habitats of animals in that area. It is a pretty simple idea, but alot of energy goes into building the dam.

  • Hydrogen fuel cells

Hydrogen fuel cells create electricity by making atoms bond. (most of these bears have based bechemitric which is your chemistry.) The bonding creates electricity which can spin a motor and generate power.

  • Geothermal

Geothermal is electricity harnessed from the heat of the Earths inside. The inside of the earth is magma which is molten rock. Water is heated by this magma to.. yeah you guessed it make steam and spin a turbine. This energy in theory can not run out because water is renewable and the Earth's heat will never go away.

  • Fusion and Plasma energy

This is not mainstream but in the future it might be used. Plasma energy is generated by plasmas which are super heated gasses. The US uses 0% plasma energy

  • Bioenergy

Bioenergy is the second best alternative in the US. Bioenergy is seen in fuels such as ethanol. Some of this energy has a high cost to make and als uses alot of energy to make.

People use this knowledge and use green energy so you can protect our majestic species.

The hunting must stop

Look at that tell me what you see. You humans hunt us and smile as if you have done a great deed to your people. I am going to post a poll and tell me your reaction.
I hope that you are shocked. So please try to do something. That bear was my friend though his name i believe is a bad word to you humans. Please try to help.
What can you do. You can sign petitions and phone your government. End our suffering please.

Why I posted nothing over the end week

I am sorry that there was nothing new over the end week (you humans call it the week end). There are a couple of reasons why and these are all true.
  1. It was national bear day, the celebration of the great bear God. He goes by many names. But this end week was a time of much celebration. All work was cancelled. The traditional feast was small though and there where guard bears making sure that no one took to much food. I had a good time praising the great bear
  2. I was not home at all. On the first day I was over at my friend Elliots cavern and we had a huge party to celebrate the mastery of fire... no one tell robert that. His little sisters friend was over so we also had to do what they wanted.. a dance off. I completely won that dance off.
  3. The next day I had to pick up my friend from Bear town. I went to his house to eat food and stayed the night.

I just got home and I thought I would explain why there is nothing new

The second day of Sids visit continued

Wow that was one mad bear. Somehow I said over his roaring that Sid was an Enviormentalist. One bear asked "what is a enviormentalist" and I replied "an enviormentalist protects animals" They were ok with him then. I wanted the bears to have genuine trust with my friend so I asked "what do you do to help us"
He replied "Humans use cars and we will never stop but some people use cars with high mpg... those are the amount of distance they go with a gallon of gas. The higher the MPG the less pollution."
Another bear asked a question about the water walkers and other things humans use.
Sid said that they use electricity to power there houses and electricity is made in many ways. He said he would tell the other bears what they her later.

The second day of Sids visit

To day is the second day of Sids visit to my humble abode. We woke at the crack of noon and ate a hearty breakfeast of oaty tundra cakes made of a grain found a little south of my home. Over the course of a jolly meal we talked on the 1 degree (centigrade) increase in the tempurature of the world. He told be that he had learned that at the current rate of warming my people would die out in a time period of 50 to 100 years. I was shocked that the humans predictions my thought was that we would have at the very least 150 years to live in the polar ice cap I call home. After our breakfeast we got ready to visit my friend who sid helped to rescue from a zoo.
We stepped to the door and a angry mob was infront of us. Atleast 50 bears and the lord of the
fishers was also present. Yeah that is him sitting on his throne, a grumpy old bear now that the fish are gone. He probally organized the mob if he had heard of me bringing an outsider.

He roared at us and then in a gruff voice complained "Because of them humans like that one over there are taking are fish in numbers greater then they need. They throw away masses of extra food that is wasted. They do not need to fish so much. We are generous people but we need to eat our selves so they cannot keep on stealing and eating what should be ours" and then he roared again . Another bear wxplained "we have to swim 60 miles for fish.

My one human buddy Sid

My friend Sid (visit his blog at http://siddharthgb.blogspot.com/) visited me. He arrived at the port and I picked him up. I seemed upset to him when he asked me about fish so he changed the subject and said"it sure is cold in the Arctic.
I exploded on him "It is not cold any more it is warming at rates not seen and you are to blame my friend. I then apologised and he to apologised as well.
I told him "My friend I am sorry you and some of the people like you are trying to help us out and you actually care about us. I mean you educate the general populace about global warming and tell them what to do to slow it. I mean not all of the humans are bad but to us bears see your kind as the destroyer in our land. Not all of the bears will appreciate you staying with me and you will not any under circumstances want to anger them the slightest. You know one bear could quickly eat you for a snack."

I should explain that Sid can understand animals and that he is one of the few humans who have set foot in bearville and have lived to flee the arctic tundra.

Together we walked up to my house at the edge of bearville nobody knew that he was here so maybe he would have a pleasant visit.

He and I shared a few fish sticks and we had one of the greatest human inventions, Hienz 57 varieties ketchup. A paste made of the thing you call tomatoes ids most delicious with fish sticks. Sid also brought a strange crisp called the potatoe chip and he brought cookies.
I decided to keep some chips and cookies for my brother Robert and his wife.

A phone call and after

I called my brother Robert... to visit his blog go to www.majesticbeautydestroyed.blogspot.com/

"Hello"

"Hi Robert"

"hey"

"did you read the article yet"

"don't remind me, my wife is having a fit"

"Bro that is funny your girl is always mad at you"

"My wife is yelling I got to go"

"I will call you back later"

So after that I reached for A fish stick to eat. I felt sorry for my brother because he has two mouths to feed.

The slaughter of the 60's

I read some of the comments that you have posted and you asked me to tell you about the slaughter of the 60's.

Well in the period you called the 60's in the time my parents just got together humans began an endless slaughter on our people that depleted our population to all time lows. Bad times, us bears would flee as you humans would open fire. I know that most of the newer generations of you humans care a little more then they did and y0u care a tiny bit for us

We are still hunted but not like in the 60's. Just recently we were added to the endangered species list by the United States. Thank you America... Hey also Alaska is a wonderful place the water is always the perfect temperature so thanks for making much of Alaska a wild life reserve.

Fish?

Today not only did I receive Joe's report my brother showed me the news head line reading 'Fish are they going instinct'. So reading the news and the report I set of to look for food. The weather has not improved so the bulky hunting bears could not hunt. I traversed the slushy plains till I reached my favorite fishing spot. There was always fish there and most of the time delicious ring seal. So like usual i sat and waited for fish to appear or a seal pop up for a breath. After two or so hours nothing came except a few tiny fish that were no bigger then crumbs.
In the distance I saw a broken sheet of ice that was populated by some seals. I once again traversed the slushy plains until I hit the water. I began to swim to the seals ice and I wondered how did the ice get there. Half way there I remembered that a large ice sheet had broken off near my research station. I reached the ice and began my hunt. At least a half hour later I had a kill and I began to feast upon the seal. After eating half of it I slung it on my back and returned home. I was glad that the water was so nice compared to the blasted heat on the arctic plains.

Later that night I spoke with Juan my friend from a Mexican zoo. He told me that those humans that captured him harvested the fish in vast numbers. I then asked if they knew what there over fishing was doing to our food source and that of the ringed seal. I also wanted to know if they were doing the some thing in the south pole. Juan and I ate the rest of the seal I captured and some thawed fish sticks from his freezer. He told me I should eat any food I had in my freezer sparingly and that I should try to buy some seal steaks and put those to freeze so they would not go bad.

Another reason to despise you humans that add to my list.
  1. The warming of the planet
  2. The over harvesting of fish
  3. There carelessness of there enviorment and the biosphere
  4. There stupidity, only some of them are stupid some are actually quite smart
  5. Last but not least they are just plain ugly

So if you are reading my blog please listen to our plight and do something to help us out. Petition the fishing companies or something. I know it is not just our fish you take but also the fish of our cousins the grizzly bear in other countries. I know fish is most delicious but please eat less of it and when you eat it think of us and other bears across the world and the damage fishing is doing to the biosphere and food webs of it.

So I went to sleep after making a shopping list for tomorrow and thoughts of what humans have done to us and our lives.

The squirrel report

I got a field research report from a squirrel named Joe today. Here it is...

Hey this is joe
Report on cars
Humans ride cars all the time. These cars guzzle down gas and hurt the planet. Though some look kinda cool. I did a little look into these cars and found out that the nice csars are worse. They have low fuel economy meaning they use more gas. Cars that have good gas milege such as 25-35mpg usually cost less then the big wasteful ones. Some cars also emit a low level of pollutants thanks to a law banning cars that could not pass a smog cheek. Some cars just bellow out carbon dioxide and the human controlling the cars dont care at all. Also these cars drive on roads that the humans build. In order to build these roads they cut down naturaul habitats and ruin them.
Joe-out

What the heck is global warming and how does it work.

The great ball of fire you humans call the sun emits a particle commonly known as the photon. When a photon strikes the surface of the Earth they rebound off of its surface as heat energy. In the past the heat would just go out of the atmosphere but now it is different. Greenhouse gasses such as carbon dioxide and methane trap, absorb and then send the heat energy out in all directions. Global warming is mostly the retaining of heat in our atmosphere. Greenhouse gasses are from your powerplants and vehichles that you drive. We bears know how to lesseen your emmisions...

About our society

Before I post more on my topic allow me to tell you about the society I am part of. We polar bears live in a grand place called Bearville. I live in the suburbs of bearville and in a nice quit neighborhood. Our great allies the penguins reside on the opposite pole of our earth. Our two races exchange information. Our bear society is intelligent. From my class studies in humans I could say that our societies are somewhat similar. Though we do not have your mystic water walkers on which your people ride and call boats or the strange ice traverers that you travel upon. We bears are most fascinated by these things but the studies of my team have learned these machines secrete carbon dioxide which is contributing largely to global warming. This warming actually made the great statue of Argok the Great melt.
Well we bears are great preservers of the natural world, we as a community have the smallest carbon foot print. and we want you people to care about are land enough to not harm it any more.At the current rate of melting are ice is going through we will be gone in 50-100 years. Are great society would fall and so would other societies that reside in the great lands of ice such as Antarctica and the rest of the Arctic. This warming also threatens are non-polar allies that give us reports on how the outside world is acting and Field reports on carbon emissions

Today...

After yesterdays beautiful weather (clear skies and a nice 23 degrees oh that was such a nice day) it is hot today.I checked the thermometer and was shocked to see it stopped on a blazing 33 degrees. All that means is that some surface snow will melt and the hunting bears will not hunt. I can deal with that for I am not that bad of a hunter and if I need to I can hunt the ringed-seals by myself. What I can not stand id the blasted heat and our ice melting. Just a few minutes ago a large chunk of ice broke off int the sea and is drifting south. My friend joe was in a cabin on that ice and now he is gone. This terrifieng incident made me want to quit my studies on global warming and forsake the bear community and go home.. but luckely for me, I already gathered enough information to return to my cabin on 111 polar street in bearville artic. Bearville is a society that you humans do not know of. We are actually advanced beings and organisms such as penguins are to.

We are in danger

We polar bears are the greatest predators in our region. The only thing we fear is a man with a gun. we have not forgotten the slaughter of the 60's so we are weary of men. But that is not what we are most afraid off. We fear that your warming of the planet is endangering our homeland, the great ice sheets of the Arctic circle. The warming not only melts the ice making it harder too find steady ground (or ice) but it also hurts are prey such as seals and other creatures who live on the ice. The destruction of our home will prove to be our end and the end of our prey, friends (penguins and other sorts of arctic critters) and our allies. We will all suffer to live only in the place were humans point and laugh at us the place people call Zoos. I know all that happens there because my aunt Ela was captured and brought to the zoo. That is here picture but our end in the wild is my main concern not our post existence in zoos.

Under these words you can see me and my brother Robert stranded in the ocean. Over a short period of hibernation our dens were surrounded by water and we were stranded in the ocean. The experience was rather frightening.

About us polar bears

To begin I feel I should tell you about us polar bears. First I will tell you what humans know about us.

Today there is approximately 22,250, give or take 2,000 polar bears on our planet. During the period of time you people called the 60's our numbers plummeted to around 6,000 bears due to the over-hunting but our icy home was safe and was secure. Today we are a healthy species that are losing our home environment. See the following blog for more info http://gristmill.grist.org/story/2008/4/2/154539/6000
Human scientist know us as Ursus maritimus and most others just call us polar bears. We are the largest land carnivore on the planet today. Our fur can range from brilliant lunar white to a mottled yellow. We have large paddle like feet that allow us to stand well on ice and swim powerfully. While swimming we can reach speeds of ten kilometers/hour. Our bodies are streamlined to aid in are swimming. Here are some averages of our hieght, wieght, lifespan, and our diet, range, and reproductive basics.
---
Height 8 to 10 feet
Weight Adult males 550-1700 lbs; females 200 - 700 lbs
Lifespan 20 - 25 years
Staples Almost exclusively feed on ringed seals and to a lesser extent bearded seals
We also eat walrus, beluga whale and bowhead whale carcasses, birds, vegetation and kelp
Polar bears are distributed throughout the arctic region in 19 subpopulations.
Canada (Manitoba; Newfoundland; Northwest Territories; Nunavut; Ontario; Quebec; Yukon), Greenland, Norway (Svalbard), Russian Federation (Krasnoyarsk; Magadan; North European Russia; West Siberia; Yakutiya), United States (Alaska) have polar bear populations.
ReproductionMating Season Late March through MayGestation About 8 months with delayed implantationLitter size 1-4 cubs; 2 cubs most common
---
WE polar bears act with the stability of the ice. If we are a mature bear we are solitare except during the mating season and when we raise our young. When we are young we stay with our mothers.

What this is all about...

This blog is to rise awareness on global warming by telling a story based on the reality of the melting ice caps from the view of me, a polar bear. The following link is to the polar bear international cartoon corner. The cartoon will change at least once a week.

http://www.polarbearsinternational.org/cartoon-corner/

To learn about me the narrator Skii the polar bear and my society read 'My Story'

This blog is meant to entertain everyone as well as inform everyone what is happening to the polar ice caps from the results of global warming, and how that affects me and my fellow bears who live there.

So let me begin...
